my personal webpages

This blog is only for Korean language learning.

But I have other blogs and webpages with more personal things.

I thought that reading posts about other’s personal life is one way of improving your Korean.

It’s supposed to be written in easier words than those in textbooks.

So I’ll give you the addresses of my other webpages.

Help!! Please, take part in my survey for thesis.

Hello. My name is Hyeyoung Jung.

I’m a student of Kyunghee Graduate School, majoring in Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language.

I want to conduct a survey for my thesis.

This survey is designed to find out the actual conditions and needs for self-studying

learners of the Korean language. The result of this survey will be used only for my

thesis.

However, I’ll try my best to support those needs and I want the result to be

reflected somehow to make things better for learners of the Korean language.

If you are interested in helping this to happen or just want to help me, please spare about 5 minutes and take part in the survey. It’s done online, you just need several clicks on your choices and possibly, short answers or comments.

This is the link of the survey.

Numbers-Lesson 5: duration

It’s very complicated

one minute 일 분

one hour 한 시간

one month 한 , 일 개월

two months 두 , 이 개월

There are still more words to know.

one day 일 일, 하루

two days 이 일, 이틀

3 days 삼 일, 사흘

4 days 사 일, 나흘

5 days 오 일, 닷새

6 days 육 일, 엿새

7 칠 일, 이레

8 팔 일, 여드레

9 구 일, 아흐레

10 십 일, 열흘

There are whole bunch of these kind of words.

so just to make it easy and simple, use the former ones.

1 year 일 년

2 years 이 년

1 lifetime 한 평생

Numbers-Lesson 4: bigger numbers

In English, numbers are divided into 3digits(I’m not sure how to descrive this, I hope you get the right meaning)

you need to know

100 hundred

1,000 thousand

10,000 ten thousands

100,000 one hundred thousands

1,000000 million

In Korean, numbers are divided into 4 digits when we read them.

(But they write it with 3-digit division, usually at the banks)

1 일

10 (일)

100 (일)

1000 (일)

10000 (일)

then, repeats in the cycle

100000 십만

1000000 백만

10000000 천만

100000000 (일)

1000000000 십억

10000000000 백억

100000000000 천억

100000000000 (일)

예) 123456789 일억 이천 삼백 사십 오만 육천 칠백 팔십 구

So, you need to know 십, 백, 천, 만, then, 억, 조,…bigger numbers than this will not be heard often around.

Numbers-Lesson 3: date

When you talk about date, you also use sino-Korean numbers.

May 8 : 오 월(Month)일(day)

To talk about ‘year’, you need to know some more new words.

10 십

100 백

1000 천

We don’t seperate them into 2-digit numbers as they do in English.

the year 1987 (일)천 구백 팔십 칠

the year 2007 이천 칠 년

the year 2345 이천 삼백 사십 오 년
